The Narrative Method is an award-winning program for Veterans struggling with PTSD, addictions, homelessness, and incarcerations.
The Narrative Method lays the foundation for rebuilding self-esteem and the skills to create healthy relationships. Vets learn the tools of Narrative A.W.E. to communicate with depth and listen with compassion. Inspiring media and compelling conversations span a wide range of subjects that challenge rigid beliefs and provide new perspectives. Everyone is heard without criticism or shame and valued for who they really are. In revisiting their stories with a broader perspective, participants see that what happened to them in the past does not define who they are as human beings. As they begin to forgive and accept themselves, they develop the confidence to support each other in the transition back to civilian life.

This week will be my last week here at New Directions. I wanted to let you know your class was a major part of my stay here. You gave me back my voice. You gave me the freedom to think and voice my thoughts. There were no boundaries on any topic, any form of passion.
One of my biggest fears when I became homeless and sought help was to be forgotten in the system. I had lost my voice. Shari, you and The Narrative Method helped in allowing me to stand up again. Thanks is not enough, but thank you!
When I started The Narrative Method in February 2015 it was like this was meant for me. You asked the questions. And each question brought out more truth. When I tell a story it’s like validation for my life. Your questions allowed me to search for my truth. And truth gives you freedom to be who you were meant to be.
One of your questions was about our passions. Racing with my family is my passion. You helped a lot in making the choice to spend the money to get our family car back on the track.
The mind is a beautiful place. Far too often we hide behind walls built. The Narrative Method is a key and if used it can unlock the chains that hold those walls up. Unlocking the brain and using the mind to open our view and to see things through the eyes of another gives us a better perspective and more tolerance.
As I go on in life I hope I can find ways to use the key I found through you and The Narrative Method.
